You can’t break me…

A song worth listening to…

Ingrid Michaelson – Spare Change

Spare Change

Aching, longing
Save all your hands for me
‘Cause I won’t share them
With anything, anyone, no

I grew from you
Branches from a dying tree
But I could save you
If only you looked for me

You can’t break me
I’m a piggy bank on the floor
Watch all my spare change
Roll out the door
Watch all my spare change
Roll across the floor
Watching me through
Your glass door…

Save your smile for
Everybody else you see
‘Cause I don’t want the
One that you make for me

You can’t break me
I’m a piggy bank on the floor
Watch all my spare change
Roll out the door
Watch all my spare change
Roll across the floor
Watching me through
Your glass door…
Your door…

The more that I’ve tried
The more that you’ve pried
Yourself away…

What has Obama done in office?

I have posted a couple times addressing this question. What has Obama done so far? You can read those here and here. But… I stumbled upon a fantastic site that answers that question simply—over and over and over again– What the F*** has Obama done so far dot com. Obama has done so much for our country. He cannot fix all the years of damage the last administration did but he has done a lot towards repairing so many national wounds. From healthcare reform to rights of all people to corporate responsibility—Obama has been working hard for all of us…these are just a few examples the website cites…

For Women…

For Children…

For minorities…

For gay rights…

For students…

For Human Rights (and for restoration of political legitimacy)…

For science and research…

For the disabled…

For the veterans and their families…

For the elderly…

For the unemployed…

For the fiscally conservative (and the next generation)…

For the geeks, even…

And as I said above, these are just a few of the examples of What Obama has done so far… in one term in office. I would say he has done an outstanding job so far.

Thank you President Barack Obama.

You can read more on the website: What the f*** has Obama done so far?

Did you know?

Gwyn in a tree, originally uploaded by EYE///STONE.

Did you know that redheads have more sex?1

Redheads are more sensitive to pain.2

And redheads need more anesthesia.3

There are a lot of myths about redheads. I guess that will happen with any specific grouping of people, right? We like to think in terms of groups, classification, stereotypes. I read that bees sting redheads more than other hair colors. I am not certain I believe this. Anyone know of a scientific study that supports this claim?

Red hair is a genetic mutation. A genetic mutation I am thankful for. And no, this picture is not of me but worth sharing all the same. Long live the redheads.

The Static On The Line

After finding the website, I Wrote This For You dot me, I immediately bought the book, of course — titled after the website: I Wrote This For You by Pleasefindthis. And in it, I found some of the most beautiful, raw snippets of thought prose. One of the passages that stands out to me right now is titled, “The Static On The Line”. It says,

Don’t talk to me like you know me. Talk to me like you love me.

Incredible, eh? So, why not? Why don’t we talk to people like we love them, like we adore them? Why are we often harshest to those we are closest with? He writes about this on his blog too, in a post titled “The Closeness of Shadows” where he says,

You still believe you’re allowed to hurt the people who love you more than anyone else.

Why is that? =/ That is so sad. Let’s stop, shall we?

And definitely, read the book and the website.

I could have…

I could have written this myself… I did not but, I could have. It tastes like my words but I so rarely share my poetic side…

I found this place and love it. I wrote this for you

Creative Self-Loathing

I think too much. Lately, more than usual and for whatever reason my thoughts are not in my favor. I am so thankful to have such a magnanimous brain and endless creative imagination but some days all of the resources of both work against me. Here, listen to a nice song while you stick around and read.

Joshua James – Lovers Without Love

I wonder if “I am sorry” means anything after you continue to do the same thing over and over and over. I know for some, it doesn’t. For people like me, well I am infinitely forgiving and tolerant. I don’t know why. I just don’t like to hold grudges or stay upset. Mostly, I forget what I was upset about in the first place. This helps. Others can recall how you gave them a dirty look in the 2nd grade and remain angry till their grave. For what it is worth, I am sorry for being flaky, for being needy, for being a pain, for not being around, for anything…for everything.

Gah.

Happy St. George’s Day!

Well, every day we learn something new. Or we should. And today, I learned about St. George. He is the Patron Saint of England. According to legends, he was a dragon slayer and a crusader. While many do not really celebrate St. George’s Day, it is still a holiday,  April 23rd of every year. So, next year… google it, research it… go to the library even and read about it.  And then let’s see if we can celebrate it in a fun way, shall we? Where we here in the United States and Ireland celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, this is England’s equivalent. Albeit, they are less enthusiastically celebrating it these days…

Another note of interest, St. George’s Day is celebrated in Catalonia as “The Day of the Rose”. According to Wikipedia1,

…since 1436,’The Day of the Rose’ is a day where the exchange of gifts between sweethearts, loved ones and respected ones is effectuated. It would be the analogous to Valentine’s Day. Although the World Book and Copyright Day has been celebrating since 1995 internationally, the first time that books where also exchanged in ‘The Day of the Rose’ in Catalonia, was in 1926; also to commemorate the death of Cervantes and Shakespeare.

And this same day is also the UNESCO International Day of the Book and Copyright.

Corny

I love corny jokes. They are the best. And so, I decided to look up the origins of “corny”.

As for “corny,” meaning trite, overly sentimental or schmaltzy, we can probably trace the term to, believe it or not, the mail-order seed catalogs popular in turn of the century America. To hold their customers’ interest, seed firms would sprinkle jokes, cartoons, stories and riddles throughout their catalogs. The jokes, being of singularly low quality, came to be known as “corn catalog jokes,” which was then shortened to simply “corny” and eventually applied to anything considered embarrassingly unsophisticated.1

I went to the video store and asked to borrow Batman Forever. They said, “No, you have to bring it back tomorrow.”

A horse walks into the bar and the bartender says, “Hey” and the horse says, “Sure”.
