Happy 4th of July

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

A lovely bunch of boys came up with the idea to eat red, white and blue foods for the 4th of July weekend. We ran with the idea at our house…and here was breakfast…

Plain yogurt, blueberries and strawberries! (Underneath is some granola!)

I hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July holiday. I’ll post more fun pictures as I take them!

For now, let me tell you what I LOVE ABOUT JULY!

Red, white(<–white) and blue. Ice cubes. Swimming. Slurpees. Free time. Salads and fruit. Summer vegetables. Popsicles. The sound of the ice cream trucks in my neighborhood. Independence. Outdoor musical concerts. Festivals. The Bite of Seattle. Seafair. Captain Bogg & Salty. Whaling Days.

Organic LOCAL produce…

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

I eat a lot of vegetables and fruits. I generally get organic and local but I go to the store to get them or the local farmer’s market. Well, last month I decided to try a local farm who delivers once a week. I signed up for the service, they have a variety of options from a small box of fruit for $25 a box to the whole shebang — vegetables and fruits for $37. I went with the big box…why not? It can’t hurt to have lots of extra vegetables and fruits, can it? They will definitely get eaten. The first couple of weeks had a lot of green leafy vegetables which wilted by the day after delivery at lunch. =( That sucks. So, maybe it is best to pick those on my own. I do know how to clean and store them, I eat them daily. But the fruit and other vegetables have been amazing.

It comes in a box with a plastic liner… and its left at my doorstep each week. This week’s box was particularly wonderful! Apples, nectarines, black plums, asparagus, cauliflower, mustard greens (we will see tomorrow how they work out!), raspberries, grapes, blueberries, carrots and organic potatoes…

Beautiful breakfast…

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

I love pancakes. I do. I do! =) I also love fruit of all kinds and peanut butter and so… imagine my delight when I saw what was for breakfast! This made me happy indeed. So happy…I felt I had to share some pictures of this beautiful breakfast with you.

Pancakes and Fruit Medley (YUMMY!)

Fruit Medley (watermelon, strawberries, honeydew melon, and cantaloupe--all locally grown!)

As it happens…we found that Jif (our favorite peanut butter) has an all-natural kind of peanut butter…so we thought we’d try. I was a little worried it would be weird or yucky, but was pleasantly surprised. It is excellent and I feel good about eating it without all the strange additions. It tastes really good. Here, read about it at the Jif site.

I put it on my pancakes and YUMMY! It was really good. I couldn’t really taste the difference which is a bonus, right?

Food is fun

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Oh, yes. I do not much like to eat anymore so I have ample time to play with my food… and this is what I came up with today. (The angry sandwich is inspired by one I found on the internet…the rest are my own creations!)

My happy Sandwich -- Playing with my food

Crazy and/or Pirate Sandwich -- Playing with my food

He\'s scared...the mean sandwich will get him...

Sad-wich

Grrrrr....

I do so love to play with my food. It is fun. I’ll let you know what I come up with next…

(FYI…the sandwiches are made with peanut butter and jelly… the eyes with pieces of apples and green bell peppers)
