Outside, water was suspended in the air like a science experiment–an experiment that had been going on for thousands of years, and constituted the weather…

Nicole Krauss in her new book, “Great House

I absolutely love the way she weaves words together and stitches complex human emotions into every sentence. This book is definitely worth getting. And if you are not familiar with her work, you will almost inevitably love her first book, “The History of Love“.

Lately I find my life is so foggy. Nothing is clear. And I am losing my way. Or I have already lost it. I don’t know which way to go, if I should stop and wait for the fog to clear. Will it clear?

I am straining to see the right path but all that is important seems to fade into the haze and I am left with no directions, no cookie crumbs to follow home.

At least I voted, not that it is related at all but apparently mail reaches even the foggiest of places. I hope you voted (or vote) too.

Birds and Books and birdy books

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

until soon, originally uploaded by jamie heiden.

I have been given the wonderful opportunity to receive and review advanced reader copies for bird related and natural history books. I am VERY excited about this because birds and books are two of my very favorite things in this world!

I am 1/2 way through the first book. I will post a link to each review when I finish it.

How fun!

Birdmad Girl

Birdmad Girl, originally uploaded by Anita Mejia.

This girl has got a smile
That can make me cry
This girl just burns with love
She’s burning burning deep outside

Night time night time
Sets my house on fire
I’ll turn into the melting man
I’ll lose my life
To feel I feel desire

Oh I should feel
Like a polar bear
Like a polar bear
It’s impossible

She flies outside this cage
Singing girl-mad words
I keep her dark thoughts deep inside
As black as stone
As mad as birds

Wild wild wild
And never turn away
Sends me all her love
She sends me everything
She sends me everywhere

Oh I could be
A polar bear
Oh I could be
A polar bear
But it’s impossible

I try to talk
The sky goes red
I forget
So fill my head
With some of this
Some of that
Some of every word she said

Oh I should be
A polar bear
But it’s imposible

We’ve All Gone Mad

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

We’ve All Gone Mad, originally uploaded by Boy_Wonder.

I feel like my whole world is caving in and I don’t know how to stop it. It is as if the roof has sprung a million leaks and I have but one bucket. I guess I could swim to the other side but how do I sleep? How do I move forward?

Have you ever felt so sad that your body refuses to do the most mundane but necessary things? It is so strong it wells up in my eyes every other moment blurring what used to be, what could be.

I am really struggling. I guess we all have periods in our lives where everything seems much darker.

We’ve all gone mad.

Fallen, originally uploaded by closet_artist.

My thoughts have fallen wayside and I have been silent. I apologize for anyone who reads my ramblings often and has felt disappointed by my nothingness. I have been lost in my own little world, thoughts whirling me about in every which direction.

I am still being nice as part of my Journey to Nice… I am still paying for people behind me in the drive-ups, leaving notes, sending notes of encouragement and writing to my friends and family on a semi-regular basis.

I am still.
I am, still.

I miss you

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

I miss our long conversations, deep discussions about every possible layer of every thing. I miss being understood and understanding, the way we so inherently did. I miss sharing music, pictures and long emails filled with side stories and philosophical exploration.

I miss you.

I love the fall!

It is the perfect time of the year where everything feels possible. Where you can replenish from the scorching months of summer.

Halloween is coming!

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Halloween is so coming! I love Halloween. It is fun to decorate and work on projects with people I like. This year I decided upon an Edgar Allan Poe motif. Giant “NEVERMORE” strung across my porch with a big raven and small crows all over. I’ll take some photos when I am done. =) For now, I have a pumpkin I am painting… this is stage 1. It needs a few more coats.

Creepy mouth, eh? It is going to have more coats of paint and some added touches to make a finished deranged cat from Edgar Allan Poe’s The Black Cat. Fun stuff! And here are some Halloween cupcakes we picked up,

What do you think you will do for Halloween?
